Frequently Asked Questions:

How much does therapy cost?

Each 50-minute session is $80.00

What if my partner doesn't want to come?

Come anyway! I work from a systemic perspective, meaning that I believe one person can change a system or pattern in a relationship. Besides, quite often the other partner starts attending to see what they are missing.

What will happen during the first visit?

We will spend some time getting to know each other. I will explain what to expect from a therapist, and give a little bit of information about me. You can talk about what brought you in, and give some background information about yourself.
This initial 30-minute consultation is free.

If therapy with me feels like a good fit (we'll also talk about how to be good consumers of therapy), we will schedule our next appointment, and I will send you home with some paperwork.

Can I use my health insurance?

It can be difficult to get coverage for marriage counseling or sex therapy. Insurance companies often follow a model of "one patient."

Additionally, insurance companies require a diagnosis for continued treatment.
In couples therapy, I would have to give an individual diagnosis, which is counterproductive and is asking me to blame the problems in the relationship on one person. I will not do this!
Lastly, I cannot guarantee that this diagnosis will be kept confidential by the insurance companies. Current & future employers may have access to this information as well.

When you think about the cost of going to counseling, many experts recommend that you also consider what it would cost NOT to go:

If you don’t seek help for marital problems, they can escalate over time and you could find yourself down the road investing in a painful and expensive divorce.
In addition, the stress of maintaining, or ending, a difficult relationship can affect your health, your happiness and your quality of life. When you add these pieces into the equation, it may help to put the expense of counseling into perspective for you.
